Create your account
Tap Sign up in the header and enter your email and a password. One account does everything: buying, selling, and groups. You only verify a phone number when you publish your first listing.
Your profile is what sellers and buyers see when they deal with you. A clear photo of your face and a line about who you are go a long way, and in-person services need that photo before they can be published.
Set your location
Everything on SkillDeck is local, so the first thing to set is where you are. Tap the location in the header, then choose your city or use your current position. The distance you see on every card is measured from there.
Widen the radius to see more, or choose Anywhere to search the whole site, which is handy for virtual services and things that ship.
Change the language
The site speaks English and Spanish. Switch with the English · Español links at the bottom of any page; your choice is remembered. Listings keep the language their seller wrote them in, and you can search in either.
Find a seller or product
Type what you need in the search box in your own words, like someone to trim my hedges or birthday cake for 20. SkillDeck works out the category and shows you nearby sellers. You can also browse by category and narrow to services or products.
Each card shows the price or starting price, the distance from you, and the seller's rating. Open a listing to see photos, details, reviews, and what the seller needs to know to help you.
Request a quote
Custom work is priced after the seller knows what you need. On the listing, tap Request Quote and answer the seller's questions, most of which are a tap on an option. Questions marked with an asterisk are required; some sellers also ask you to describe the job in your own words, and you can always add a note or photos if the seller allows them.
Sending the request opens a conversation with the seller. They reply with a quote: a price, a description, and how long it's valid. If it works for you, accept it and pay from the same conversation.
Book or buy at a fixed price
Listings with a set price can be bought or booked straight away. Pick any options the seller offers, like a session length or a size, and any add-ons, then continue to checkout and pay by card. You'll get an order page with a short order code; keep it handy if you ever contact us about that order.
Pay safely
Always pay through SkillDeck. Your payment is held until the work is done or the item is in your hands, which is what makes it possible to sort things out if something goes wrong. A seller who asks you to pay another way is breaking our rules, and we'd like to know.
Every listing shows its refund policy before you pay. Read it: it's the policy that applies to that order.
Track your orders
Open your menu and choose Purchases. Each order has its own page with the status, the conversation with the seller, and the actions available at that stage, such as confirming the work is done or raising a dispute.
Leave a review
Once an order is complete, you can review the seller from the order page. Reviews appear on the seller's profile and listings, and they are what the next buyer reads first, so say what was good and what wasn't.
Create a listing
Open your menu and choose Create listing. The wizard takes you through seven short steps: what kind of thing it is, its category, the price, any options, the details, photos, and where and to whom it's visible. Start from one of the templates if one fits; everything in it can be changed.
Your progress is saved as a draft as you go, and you can preview before you publish. A product needs at least one photo of the actual item; an in-person service needs a profile photo that clearly shows your face.
Ask the right quote questions
On the Quote questions step, we start you off with the questions sellers in your category usually need answered. Edit any of them, remove the ones you don't need, and add your own. Keep it short: fewer questions get more requests.
Turn on Require a written description when the job is custom enough that a few taps can't describe it, and allow photos when seeing the job helps you quote it right.
Set prices, variants and add-ons
A listing can have a fixed price, be quoted per job, or be free. With a fixed price you can offer variants, like a 30-, 45- or 60-minute session, each with its own price or the base price, and add-ons buyers can tack on for a fee.
Get verified
Open your menu, go to your dashboard, and choose Verification. ID verification confirms you are who you say, and a background check goes further; each adds a badge that buyers see on your profile and listings. Some care categories, such as childcare and eldercare, require a background check before a listing can be published.
Get paid
In your dashboard, open Payments and connect a payout account; it takes a few minutes and is handled by Stripe, which also processes the card payments. Your earnings are released after each order completes, and Earnings shows what's on its way.
Join or start a group
Groups are neighborhoods, schools, clubs, and any other circle where people already trust each other. Browse them under Groups; some let you join right away and some ask a question first. Members can post on the group's board and share listings with the group only.
To start one, choose Create Group, give it a name and a description, and decide whether joining needs approval.
Report a problem
Every listing, profile, group, and review has a Report option. Choose the reason and add anything that helps. A person reviews every report, and what we find becomes part of the account's record. If a message worries you, report the sender's profile, or email us with the order code if there is one. If something feels unsafe, report it; you won't be told off for a false alarm.
Contact support
Couldn't find it here? Email support@skilldeck.com. A person reads every message, and if it's about an order, include the order code. Our support page has response times and the details of refunds, cancellations, and account security.
